Local conveyancer, Donna Westwood, from Westwood Conveyancing believes it is important to help buyers understand the legal aspects purchasing a property during what can be a stressful time. Years of experience has given Donna great insight into the process and Donna now recommends buyers to check all the facts and tick all the boxes before making a purchase.

Donna’s tips to buyers in the area include the following:

  • If you are deciding between purchasing under a business name or personal name it is important to consider possible tax implications. It is best to discuss your options with your accountant
  • If purchasing with a partner or another party, you should also consider if you will purchase as tenants in common or joint tenants as this can play a roll in the legal process of ownership if an owner passes away (more information on this can be found here)
  • Order reports before contracts become binding – Building and pest for houses, strata for units, townhouses and apartments and building certificates and land surveys for vacant land or developments

If you would like any more advice or need assistance purchasing a property, our team and Donna would love to help you.
