{"id":4873,"date":"2022-05-23T15:14:54","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T05:14:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lsre.com.au\/granville\/?p=4873"},"modified":"2022-07-29T11:21:52","modified_gmt":"2022-07-29T01:21:52","slug":"reinsw-the-real-week-ahead-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lsre.com.au\/granville\/market-news\/reinsw-the-real-week-ahead-3\/","title":{"rendered":"REINSW: The Real Week Ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Pictured;\u00a0Tim McKibbin, Chief Executive Officer, REINSW<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>\u201c\u2026property taxation is a clear opportunity for reform to improve affordability as part of a broader strategy&#8230;\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>May 16 2022<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe latest NSW transfer duty figures provide a timely reminder of the importance of a healthy housing market as the nation prepares to vote this weekend.<br \/>\n\u201cRevenue NSW figures just released show $982 million was collected in stamp duty in April alone, bringing the total stamp duty revenue for the financial year to date to an eye-watering $12.3 billion.<br \/>\n\u201cThis is more than a billion dollars above the full financial year budget forecast for stamp duty and there\u2019s still two months left to run.<br \/>\n\u201cReal estate consumers are playing an enormous part in propping up the state\u2019s economy.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile it\u2019s the NSW Government which collects this windfall, the various issues which continue to impact housing, including affordability, would benefit from a coordinated national response, as the Real Estate Institute of Australia has pointed out.<br \/>\n\u201cNevertheless, as these alarming figures show, property taxation is a clear opportunity for reform to improve affordability as part of a broader strategy, should whoever wins Government want to get serious on this front.<br \/>\n\u201cThe April figures also show the concerning impacts of stamp duty bracket creep.
