\nIn exciting news for Sydney commuters, NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Transport\u00a0Gladys Berejiklian\u00a0have announced that the South West Rail Link will open for commuters on February 8th this year – a full year ahead of schedule.<\/p>\n
The South West Rail Link was undertaken in August 2009 in response to issues surrounding the reliability and passenger capacity of public transport from South-West Sydney. Over three years of construction, development and testing, the initiative will connect the ever-growing population bases of Sydney’s south west with the\u00a0CBD, and improving infrastructure via major western employment hubs included major upgrades to Glenfield\u00a0Station and bus\/rail interchange and a twin track passenger rail line from Glenfield to Leppington\u00a0via\u00a0Edmonson park.<\/p>\n
“This is great news for Western Sydney and means that, for the first time, residents in Sydney’s fastest growing region will have access to a world-class, reliable train service connecting them to the rest of the city,” Mr Baird said.<\/p>\n
According to a recent release from the NSW Government, the new link has created approximately 9000 jobs during construction alone, and is expected to provide a considerable boost in economic productivity across the region. It is just one of a number of projects undertaken by the NSW Government , and comes as part of the NSW Government’s broader vision to bring outer fringe homes and job markets closer together in order to keep up with Sydney’s burgeoning population, particularly in the north and south west.<\/p>\n
Having come in at $300 million under budget, the South West link also offers some relief for those seeking property beyond the affordability pressures of the city, and provides the economic investment to push forward urban development and construction in the surrounding areas.<\/p>\n
