The Studio by Laing+Simmons Young Property Opens to Showcase Local Artists
A new hybrid space for local artists to showcase their work opens this Thursday at Careel Bay Marina at Avalon, with local photographer Craig Fallshaw of Wickham Lane the first to exhibit his work – a stunning Avalon and Palm Beach collection – at ‘The Studio’.
An initiative of local real estate business Laing+Simmons Young Property, The Studio is a community-focused hybrid space which also serves as the company’s office.
A VIP opening of The Studio will be held on Wednesday with a distinct local flavour, including fantastic beers courtesy of local Avalon brewery Trust Tree. This will be followed by Thursday’s public opening, when Fallshaw’s first exhibition entitled Beyond the Bends is unveiled to the community.
Craig Fallshaw is the creative force behind Avalon-based photographic studio Wickham Lane. Craig’s photography began in childhood, shooting star trails on 35mm film, aided by his father. A Northern Beaches upbringing charged his desire to capture landscapes and the beautiful coastline.
Images from the stunning Beyond the Bends collection will be available for purchase and the exhibition will run until the end of January 2021.
At this time, another local artist will be invited to display their work, explains Amy Young of Laing+Simmons Young Property.
“We will be connecting with local artists, photographers and creatives to invite them to participate. The vision for The Studio is to be a dynamic, flexible, engaging space for artists to exhibit their work to the community, to capture and celebrate the charms and culture of the Northern Beaches lifestyle,” Ms Young says.
“It’s not a commercial exercise, there is no cost to the artists who show their work, and instead we’ve committed to supporting charities which align with our own values and those of our community.
“We’re grateful to welcome Craig to The Studio to help launch the initiative to the community with a photographic exhibition which spectacularly captures the local area,” she says.
Ms Young said 10 per cent of the proceeds of each exhibition at The Studio will be donated to charity, with Sea Shepherd Australia to be the beneficiary of the Beyond the Bends exhibition.
Laing+Simmons Young Property opened to the Pittwater community in mid-2020. Headed by husband and wife team Matthew and Amy Young, the agency focuses on the Avalon, Newport and Palm Beach areas and is a paperless operation. It does not do junk mail letterbox drops, it produces soft copy brochures only, customers are invited to docu-sign digitally, and more.
Since its launch, Laing+Simmons Young Property has been serving customers via a hybrid car. Until the opening of The Studio, that is.
“The Studio is a way for us to support the local community through direct action, in this case the free provision of a beautiful space. We appreciate the many local artists who so creatively communicate what the Northern Beaches lifestyle means and this is our way of giving them a platform to connect with people,” Ms Young says.
